Week 6 Term 4 reflection

Week 6 Term 4 reflection

One thing I have enjoyed this week is playing Frisbee with my PE class. This week I've learned the 10 elements of the periodic table. Next week, I'm looking forward to splash planets.

I learn best when I'm in a quiet zone with minimal noise. I don't learn best when I'm in a loud zone with plenty of distractions. Something I'd like to learn is more elements of the periodic table.

I work well with people who I know will carry there weight and can get down to business. One thing I want to work on next week is bringing full gear to P.E.

Transformaton

Transformation

In class, we were learning how to use google drawings to help us understand more about transformations in shapes.

This drawing is the end result.

Beach Day

Beach Day

Yesterday, my class SWL, took the college van went to the beach to visit Otaki Surf Lifesaving Club. We were greeted by Cassie, Damien, Lisa and Kristy. We took a tour around the lower half of the building since the top half was being used.

We left our bags in the bathrooms and went into some of the gear shed's that contained Knee boards, Ski's and a lot more. One of the sheds contained an IRB which stands for Inflatable Rescue Boat.

JPEG Image
After we learned about first aid. We were put into 4 different groups and we all participated in a amazing race.

We would be given a clue to find a location, and would be given a challenge to complete and would be given clue to the next one until we got to the end. My group came second and we had a lot of fun completing the challenges.

In the same groups, we went down to the beach and tried to pick up as much rubbish as we could. We went to the right of the beach, and ended filling our plastic bag one quarter full. We did have to go back since one of my team mates lost their phone and we helped them find it.
JPEG Image

It was to cold and windy to swim in the beach so we ended up going to the pools. We played gang tag, ball tag and my personal favourites, piggy back relay and volleyball.

After everyone had gotten changed, we walked back to school and just stayed in class having free time. Overall, I had a lot of fun doing all the cool activities at the pools and at the Otaki Surf Lifesaving club.

Assembly Performance.

Assembly Performance.

At assembly, a man called Mr Fungus performed to us as the loudest mime. He came from out of the crowd and started hysterically laughing. He eventually made his way on stage and performed some acts in front of us.

He used lots of different props like a suitcase, balloons some juggling balls and some odd items here and there.

Image result for mr fungusThe acts Mr Fungus did were, lifting what seemed to be a very heavy metal suitcase, blowing up balloons and making them pop, juggling, making an handkerchief ripple without touching it and more.

Antonio was pulled from the audience and did some balloon tricks with Mr Fungus multiple times. At the end of each and every action he did, he would make us, the audience, clap and cheer profusely.

At the end, Mr Fungus thanked the audience and applauded everyone who helped him with his performance and even made a balloon crown for Antonio.

7/8 Otaki Gorge Trip.

Yesterday, on the Thursday 26th. My class SWL and half of MNL went down to the gorge to do some fun activities with the year elevens.

To get there, I went in Lucy's car with Keira and Tyson. When we got there, we were separated into some groups. I was with, Taison, Eliot, Jayaiah, Antonio and Dragon. We were paired up with two year 11 girls.

Our first activity was shelter building. We found a spot and used to blue tarps to tie to the trees. Once we hung to the top one to the tree, we placed the other one on the ground. Then we got some ferns and placed them at the edges of the shelter.

Once we had packed up, we headed down to the river and were planning to make a fire and roast some marshmallow's. We eventually got the fire to light and had a fun time trying to roast the best looking marshmallow.

JPEG ImageThe next activity we did was raft making. I gathered some dry sticks and tied them together with some cutty grass. Mrs Smith helped me some knots are the sticks to help keep them together and also assisted me to find a good looking mast.

When the time came to race it against the other rafts. I was in the lead before my raft hit the shore, and people started to throw rocks at it.

After lunch, we all had a game of capture the flag, Juniors against Seniors. We, the juniors, managed to win against the seniors and were given bragging rights.

Going to the gorge was a lot of fun and I hope that I can go there again.

ALWTW Part 6 Discussions Questions

When Nya's father said, "Cant you guess?" I think he's inferring that they will be building a water fountain in that area.

Some of the differences from Rochester and Salva's home town Lone Ark is that the temperature is much colder in Rochester. Another difference is that all the roads in  Rochester were made where as in Salva home, the roads were all made of dirt.

I think that Salva should take into consideration that this might be his only chance to see his family again, so yes. I think that Salva should ignore his fathers request and go see his family.

Water has the water to do both. It can unite people and give them hope but people can fight over water because of jealousy and greed. I think it all comes down to how the people in control use it.

Year 7/8 Trip To El Rancho

Year 7/8 Trip To El Rancho

Yesterday on the 10th of September, SWL, (My class) MNL, SOL, went to El Rancho for a day to check out all the fun activities. I went with Bree, Leah, Nikaia and Tapari in Bree's mum, Justine's, car. When we got there, we were assigned our groups.

I was paired up with, Lucas, Jayaiah, Annalise, Eloudie, Alexandra, Zara, Nova, and two other boys I do not know the name of. The parent of my group was Megan.

The first activity we did was Go Carting, We were told how the go carts worked and were given the hair nets to put on our heads. Unfortunately, the yellow go cart had broken so we could only do one at a time. I really enjoyed going around the track and I would definitely do it again.

JPEG ImageOur next activity was Rifles. We were told how the gun works, and all the safety precautions we had to follow before we could get our hands on the air soft riffle.

I was on the left side of the small shed, and went first. We all got three shots each and we had different targets that we could fire at, after a few tries I started to get the hang of it and manged to hit most of my targets. I had a lot of fun and I would certainly do it again.

After we finished with out lunch, our last activity was Kayaking. We put these life jackets on and learned how to use the pedal and what the different whistles meant. We didn't have a lot of time but we manged to play a fun game of Frisbee.

I had a really good time hanging out and doing the different activities with my friends and would really enjoy doing it again.

ALWTW Part 4 Discussion Questions

If Salva was older and stronger, I think he would share with the others. But I don't think Salva's Uncle would encourage that Idea.

I think Uncle Jewiir goes back to fight in the war because he feels compelled to help others.

The groups attitude to Salva changes when his Uncle dies. The group starts to think that Salva will slow them down and complain. Because of this, Salva must work hard to earn his place in the group,

While Salva is in the refugee camp, he follows this woman that he think is his mother but while chasing after her, he comes to the realisation that his family is gone. The memory of his mother and father gives him the strength to survive in the camp.

Careers Expo

Careers Expo

Today, me and my class headed down to the hall to check out Careers Expo. We were given a piece of paper with a list of questions that we had to answer by walking around and checking out the different booths.

I went to the BITCO booth and it had a competition were you had to try to get a measuring tape to the top of the ceiling. If you succeeded, you would a get a hat but if you failed, they would give you pencil. I observed people doing that challenge only to find a handful succeed.

Me and my group of friends went to the stage where talked to some girls who ran the police booth where we were given a piece of paper with words. Each word would then have 3 letters next to it which meant the same thing as the words next to it. I only ended up doing half the page with my friend.

ALWTW Part 3 Discussion Questions.

Salva overcomes his fears because he is preoccupied with helping the group with build boats. I Have never experienced anything similar.

The worst Salva has faced would probably be walking across the blistering hot dessert because he is forced to continue the journey even though his body is going through a lot of pain.

His Uncle helps Salva by asking him if he can walk to a specific part of the dessert. Without his Uncle, he would have most likely been left behind and died because of dehydration. I can make small goals that I know I can accomplish.

"I'm so scared and tired, but I have to keep going."

Week 3 Term 3 Reflection.

Week 3, Term 3, Reflection.

I enjoyed watching the push up completion at lunch and I'm grateful that I finished two of my tasks in DME. In class I learned how to find number that are divisible by 9. Next week, I want to work on completing all of my reading plus tasks.

The wind howled throughout the storm, grabbing everything it it's wake, and swallowing it whole. It screams echoed, for the ocean to hear. The sky cracked with thunder and grey clouds followed it's lead.

The waves crashed against the giant ship, rocking it violently from side to side. Next came the rocks that threw themselves against everything they could, including the ship. An island was only a few miles ahead but the clouds were obstructing the view.

Everyone on the boat was tossed into the sea, only a few incredibly lucky people would be able to survive such a cruel fate. The storm seemed to last for an eternity, Only a few hours ago the weather was clear and sunny. Now this.

Something had to be causing such drastic changes in the weather. The ship was being used to transport ancient artefacts to an island far out of reach from the world called Guacamole Island.

It was an island untouched by humans nor any animals, Just a blank canvas. The perfect place to keep such valuable artefacts.

Term 3 week 2 Learning reflection

In this week of school, I have really enjoyed meeting the Japanese exchange students and being able to talk and play with them. It was the highlight of my week.

In class I learned how to multiply decimals with the help of a punnet square and place value.

Next week at school, I want to try and get my 15 minute writing words over 200.

A long walk to water - Chapter 6 prediction.

A long walk to water prediction.

A the end of chapter 5, Salva hears someone behind him call his name. I willing to guess that the person who called his name if one of his brothers, or someone else in his family.

Mariel tells Salva that they could be heading to Ethiopia.  I think that when Salva and everyone else arrives in Ethiopia, he will get some sort of clue as to where his family member is.

A Long Walk to Water - Part 1 Discussion Questions.

In the first chapter, we learn that Salva is from which is in South Sudan. He is 11 years old and has three brothers and two sisters. His fathers is successful and a very respected man.

In his life he has huge responsibility and has his fathers shoes to fill. In many ways, his life is very different from mine.

The first chapter shows some of the questions going through Salva's head which are "Where are we going?" "Where is my family" and "When will I see them again?" If I were In that same situation, I'd probably be thinking the same things.

Everyday, Nya goes to collect water for her family, She has to endure the heaviness of the plastic bottle and the thorns going against her feet. I would dread having to spend almost everyday walking and would get tired of carrying the filled plastic bottle on my head.

You can tell tribes apart by the scar markings on their heads. One of the ways I can tell students of other cultures apart is by looking at their uniform I can tell where their school is and cultures they have in that area.

Stargazing

stargazing

The sky slowly turned into a dark blue as the sun went deeper into the earths horizon. The stars started to flicker into place, each one shinning a bright light. The cold icy land was reflecting the light off the stars giving a stunning mirror effect.

At last, the world felt ghostly still. My heart beat slowed as I slowly started to take in the breathtaking sight.

It was 6:26, only 4 minutes left until the meteor shower would begin and I could barely hold in my excitement. I in a rush took out all the camera equipment and began to set up the camera stand. This was it, the moment I'd waiting so long for.

I looked again at my watch, 6:30...not a second later, the sky was filled with a rush of light coming from the east. It was like scene from a movie or a fairy-tale, the beauty of it all was so breathtaking. In the moment I felt happiness, joy and calmness.

A balanced diet.

A balanced diet.

Every morning, I wake up to find a book on plate. All the colour that remains is in the yellow bookmark.

I look around, I'm in a room with no windows and no door? Strange...

The walls are grey and all that is near me is a hanging light above me, a table, a mirror and the meal in front of me.

In all honesty, the book didn't look all that appetising and I wasn't in the mood for cake shaped book. How did I even get here? I don't remember doing anything before coming here. I must've came from somewhere.

I grabbed the mirror and stared at my reflection. Funny, I can't even recognise the person staring back me. I was a young man, maybe around thirty. Pale skin, Brown hair and brown eyes. I was wearing a blue buttoned up shirt and some black pants. I looked like any other normal person.

Time seemed to stand still. Besides my better judgement I grabbed the book and opened its pages only to find that it was blank. Now, the next thing I do seems like something like only a crazy person would do but my curiosity was begging to be fed.

I bit into the book.

The Monster

The Monster.

"Jonas?" A familiar voice coming from inside of my room was calling me." Jonas can see me?" I looked everywhere to see who was talking to be, under the bed, hiding in the wardrobe and even in my drawers.

"Jonas where are you?" I spoke back to it. "Who's talking?"
"so you can hear me." it replied.
"Yes, I can and I'd very much like to know who I'm talking to."
"Jonas, you've forgotten so much... have I left you for too long? "
...
I didn't know what to say. Surely I was dreaming or hearing voices in my head, doesn't stuff like this only happen in like movies or stories? Well, whatever this was, I'll probably get an explanation in the morning but before I did, I asked it one more question.

"Whats your name?"
"Do you mean the one you chose for me or my original name?"
"Original please."
"M"
"M? Is that it?"
"yes."
"Okay then, I'm heading to bed."
"Goodnight Jonas and goodbye my friend."

Just like that, my exhaustion finally caught up with me and I passed out on my bed. The morning came at slow pace, I would wake up during the night and have a hard time going back to sleep, thoughts of 'M' plagued my mind.

At long last, morning had arrived, I still hadn't got over what happened the previous night. My throat tightened as I let the words escape of my lips. "M? Are you still there?"
...
Nothing but silence replied. That's when I felt a sudden weight on my body, it wasn't anything major but it was definitely noticeable. I got out of bed feeling a little sadder than usual, I wasn't hungry and my movements felt slow and sluggish. Suppose that's what happens when you don't enough sleep.

Months go by and I'm still feeling this way, Nothing ever changed.
The End.

Rocket Project Test Launch.

Yesterday we had our first flight test with our ambassador Lincoln. To launch a the test rocket, we need the following equipment: bike pump, 1.5L Soda bottle, safety, safety glasses, launch,  pressure gage, measuring jug.

The rocket launcher was already assembled so the class went down to the field to with the rocket go off but be went through some procedures to get the rocket launch read.

First, they made sure that the assembled rocket launcher was facing up so it wouldn't hit anything. Second, they got the measuring cup and filled it up with 250ml of water and poured it all into the soda bottle then finally we connected the bottle to the rocket launcher.

Lincon was the one who would press the button so that the rocket would launch and Mrs Williamson did a recording of all the launch attempts while some kids got to pump pressure into the soda bottle.

For the first launch we did 10psi and 250ml of water which didn't launch and had a ten second delay. For the second launch, we did 30psi and 200ml of water and the bottle successfully launched off the launch pad.

For the third launch, we did 45psi and 350ml and it was a successful launch which managed to go higher than the one before. For the last launch, they put 45psi and 350ml and outu of all the rockets that were launched, it was the highest.

The test launches were really fun and I can't wait to see how high the finished rockets will go.

Science Road Show

Science Road Show

Yesterday at 26th of March, all of the year seven and eights walked down to the hall (different classes at different times) to learn and to interact with the science roadshow but before we did that, we watched  Justin and Kendall do some cool science stuff that I will now tell you.

just by looking at this picture, your probably wondering how this yellow flame came to be, well I happen to have somewhat of an answer.

One of the ways you can tell two elements apart is by doing the heat test. The heat test is when you put enough heat on the element and it produces a reaction which by that certain reaction you can easily tell what element it is.

and last but not least.
The big long noodley line that you see is a chemical reaction between two different chemicals that produce "Elephant Toothpaste"

It chemical reaction grew bigger and bigger until it overflowing over sides and left a mess inside of the container.

And that was part of what we did at the science road show.

Festival Of The Arts Trip

Festival of the Arts trip

Yesterday on the 14th of March, my class and all the other year seven and eight classes went to Wellington
to attend the Capital E Festival of the Arts.

The first activity we did was to do with Story Studio live and group of three people who acted out
scenarios of a script but also incorporated sounds by only using regular objects.

They performed two plays for us with one being about a world where animals are extinct and the main
character life gets more exciting as they find a cat with magical powers.

The other play was about a girl who turned into a Vampire and how people wouldn’t accept her because
of her but she learns the importance of her self worth as the story goes on.

For the next activity, we went to Wolfgang’s Magical Musical Circus which unlike any other place
could be found in an alleyway.

The act was consisted of three people with a woman and two men. It was a musical/play that had a
lot of excitement and very difficult stunts involved. I had a lot of fun watching them perform on stage.

Lastly, we watched two mimes perform a series of funny scenarios but I found it hard to understand
what was going on due to the lack of words spoken so I was very bored during some of their plays.

My favourite scenario was when one of the men played a  monk and he was able to fight a cleaner
by stopping time. I found it really entertaining.

I had a lot of fun walking around Wellington and I wished it would never end.

Athletics Day

Athletics day is a day where the whole school gathers on a field, and sets up activities for all
the year levels to compete in.

To start the day off. Each house does a cheer and the judges pick which chant is the best and
that house revives some points. I was in Totara and we somehow ended up winning which
was quite a surprise. Then the events started to begin

Since I’m a year eight, I was placed with all the female year sevens and year eights and we
did some sporty activities and we first started of with a ruby toss.

All you needed to do was from a distance you needed to throw a ruby ball through a hula hoop
and if it went in, you had to throw it from a further distance. I didn’t do so well in this activity
as I only got past the first hoop.

The next activity we did was shot-put, It was quite simple really. All that you had to do was
throw a heavy ball as far as you could and of course make sure you did it properly.

I manged to throw the shot-put six point three meters in advance and I ended up winning the
shot-put event which was super awesome.

The third activity we did was long jump. High jump is where all you have to do is jump over a
bar that is of a certain height thats it.

Me, Valerie, Jett and Neli all managed to make it in the finals. In the end, I ended up beating
Neli and came first place in High jump.

Next we had long jump. All you have to do is see how far you can jump, simple. I didn’t do
so well in long jump and only made it in the top ten.

Then we had the sprints. Valleryie and Dayna were clearly the ones to beat. I ended up
coming third in my first race, but in my second race I came first which isn’t to bad.

And finally our last activity, Disscus. Now disscus was a mess. I’m sure that close to none
of us knew what we were doing but still managed to not hit someone in the face so I guess
that's an achievement.

And was athletics day in a nutshell.

2019 All About Me

Hello! as you may know, my name is Adejah and I'm a year eight at Otaki College and this, is my blog.
